Scenic, upmarket Sotogrande lies to the east of the River Guadiaro, near the former fishing village of Torreguadiaro. Just 15 minutes’ drive to Gibraltar and about 20 minutes from Estepona, Sotogrande is not only stunning, it’s very conveniently located too.

This luxury resort boasts an up-market marina, beaches and numerous internationally acclaimed golf courses. The well-established Real Club Marítimo (yacht club) provides the opportunity to charter a sailing boat, yacht or other vessels, including jet skis.

Sotogrande Marina also hosts a Four star hotel, along with villas and apartments popular amongst Spanish and international property purchasers. They come here to enjoy holiday or permanent homes within a tranquil, high-class neighbourhood. Come and visit and you will see that Sotogrande Marina is quite unlike any of the other yacht harbours on the Costa del Sol.

Your ideal port-side apartment
The apartments in Sotogrande Marina (Puerto Deportivo Sotogrande) were first built during the 1980s to boost the area and add a nautical aspect to living in Sotogrande.

The official Puerto Deportivo Sotogrande was inaugurated in 1987, when the Real Club Marítimo hotel opened, along with up-market beachfront apartments and the Octágono Beach Club. The Marina was extended in the late 1990s to include several impressive, new frontline apartments such as the quayside apartments at Riberas and Islas, built on little islands connected by bridges. It all makes for a peaceful and civilised scene, and what better view from your apartment than azure skies and spectacular sea views to Gibraltar and Morocco beyond?

The marina is unofficially split into the original Puerto Deportivo de Sotogrande, with its five apartment blocks, along with luxury restaurants, bars and shops at street level. In between the blocks are fountain-filled patios and gardens perfect for al fresco dining. Then there’s the Club Maritimo building with the Club Maritimo Hotel on the far end, along with parking areas. Drive along the river, and beyond the gorgeous riverside apartments at Ribera del Rio you will find picturesque waterside apartments at Ribera del Corvo, Isla del Pez Volador, Isla Tortuga and more.

It is the Costa del Sol’s most refined and stylishly understated residential community. Contact us now if this sounds like your kind of place!

sotogrande marinaThe Costa del Sol’s spectacular coastal scenery is all the more impressive when you see it from the sea. And the exhilaration of cruising the waves, wind in your hair, really makes your holiday dreams come true. But where in Sotogrande can you take to the waters?

If you take a wander around the nearly 600 yacht moorings at Sotogrande’s exclusive marina, you’ll soon see how well-equipped we are here in Sotogrande.

If you’re keen to learn to sail, check out the official Royal Yachting Association (RYA) training centre, which gives theory and practical courses for all levels from novice to yacht master. The proximity of such a variety of ports under Spanish, British (Gibraltar) and Moroccan jurisdiction, along with the unique tidal patterns that the Straits of Gibraltar are so well-known for, make Sotogrande a very interesting port for sailors.

But if sipping gin and tonic while someone else steers your boat is more your style, there are superb opportunities for skippered boat charters too, from catamarans to mono-hulls and from laser dinghies, open keel sailing boats and jet skis to sea-going canoes – all are easy to hire from the port of Sotogrande.

The Real Club Maritimo Sotogrande (Royal Sotogrande Yacht Club) was born in the 1980s from a high local demand for sailing and training facilities in the area. It is now a well-respected sailing school, amongst other things offering special week-long courses for children using Optimist dinghies and catamarans for the older ones.

On a more professional level, the club also organises and hosts at least 20 prestigious regattas per year including local, regional, national and even global catamaran, Hobie Cat and cruise races.

Don’t miss the on-going sailing competition in November Interclubs del Estrecho organised by the Royal Gibraltar Yacht Club and the Algeciras Port Authority.

Sailing in SotograndeSailing is a big part of life in Sotogrande, where the sleek yachts lying in the marina are not just for show but for serious competition too, so every summer there is an active programme of regattas, sailing courses and social events at the Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande.

In reality it is an intensifying of the annual programme, as Sotogrande has a year-round calendar of sailing competitions and activities that sees yachts of many different kinds from across Spain and Europe compete in the lively waters off this coast where the Atlantic and the Mediterranean meet.

Yachtsmen love the challenge, which combined with iconic landmarks such as the Pillars of Hercules provides a perfect setting for some serious sailing. This summer’s season of events is already in full swing, and will be reaching a crescendo in the last week of the month, when the Summer Catamaran League (21st August), the Optimist Regatta (23rd August) and the III Summer Sailing League (24thAugust) are completed.

Organised by the Sotogrande Royal Maritime Club in association with the marina authority, Sotogrande SA and the tourist office of the borough of San Roque, the competitions form the highlight of a summer season that also includes popular sailing classes in different types of boats and levels of seniority, as well as fishing lessons for the young. The latter is aimed to introduce youngsters to this relaxing sport, teach them the necessary skills and also how to respect the environment and practise their sport in harmony with nature.Apartments overlooking port

More competitions and events will be held from September onwards, but the summer sailing season is an annual highlight for those visiting and living in Sotogrande, whose marina becomes a hub of nautical activity with a lively social side to it as well. Among the most popular events are the prize-giving awards, set within a yacht club that has long since established Sotogrande’s name as one of the leading yachting centres in the Mediterranean.

So if you are a keen boatsman or just love the sight of yachts peacefully bobbing on the water, we have a great selection of luxury apartments located within Sotogrande’s extensive marina area – many with private mooring places at the end of the garden.

The beating heart of the community is the marina area, with its iconic waterside apartments, shops and cafés painted in soft pastel colours. The first thing you spot when you enter this elegant area is the sight of beautiful boats swaying gently on the waves. This profusion of different vessels, ranging from sailing yatchs to small and large motor yatchs and those designed for competitive fishing, forms an indelible part of the marina’s landscape, and adds to an ambience of easygoing activity as boatsmen get ready to head out to sea.

The point of reference for all this activity has always been the Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande, one of the venerated and successful yacht clubs in Spain. It too forms part of the Sotogrande fabric, and is one of the pieces in the puzzle that make this part of the world so special. Boasting a long list of successes both as a host of popular regattas and all-conquering entries, the Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande can look back on a glorious history through which a great deal of expertise has been built up.

In addition to regulating water sports in Sotogrande and organising competitions, the yacht club also operates a sailing and a diving school, both of which have produced their share of stars. With a number of Hobbycats and Lazers and other sailing vessels available for hire both on the beach and the River. Adults and children from the age of six onwards can sign upto varied training courses that benefit from the know-how, equipment and surroundings of the Real Club Marítimo Sotogrande. With so much sea around it is not surprising that sailing is such an attraction here, and at various times during the year Sotogrande becomes the centre of attention during regattas such as the I Straits Interclub Championship and the XIII BMW Sotogrande Cup.

The latter sees a fleet of forty or more competition boats head out into the Straits to do battle for the Sotogrande Cup, now in its thirteenth year and just one of many events hosted annually. Held this year from the 10th to 13th of August, the Sotogrande Regatta brings together top competitors both from across the country and abroad, including of course the keen sailors from nearby Gibraltar.

Sotogrande’s marina, which also boasts professional maintenance and ship chandling facilities, is also the home base of Yachting Sotogrande, which provides a range of services including charters, corporate hospitality events, yacht management and both sailing and powerboat courses at the RYA Training Centre. Together, these organisations build upon a rich sailing and water sports heritage that makes Sotogrande not just one of the most pleasant nautical centres in these waters, but also one of the best.

This fabulous penthouse apartment over looking the Sotogrande marina to the south and with views of Gibraltar in the distance is a fantastic opportunity. https://www.holmesotogrande.com/ref-TOR-1308.html
