You may remember from our April blog post that the Santa MaríaPolo Club was recently awarded Grand Slam status after 44 years. Well the time has almost come for the Sotogrande club to host the 45th International Polo Tournament. With 100 players from 14 different countries and 120 matches it is sure to be a very busy 31 days!
Polo is a highly professional sport, but the social side of the game is integral to any tournament. This being one of the World’s most important polo events of the year, the social scene will be vibrant with glamorous visitors and many attractions to keep them busy. Newly introduced this year is Handicap 10 restaurant, which offers the ultimate Mediterranean dining experience courtesy of Guadalpin Catering. An exquisite menu prepared with only fresh seasonal ingredients provided by Dehesa El Milagro, an eco farm that distributes organic produce, is sure to be a highlight. With a gorgeous outdoor dining area, Handicap 10 is set to be the ideal place for brunch in between matches.
Also featuring this year will be 12 ‘gourmet’ food trucks, serving a wide range of dishes from various countries—the only question will be: “What to try first?” M-80 Radio will serenade us through the evenings with live music to end the day and prepare you for the night’s fun. Although the tournament takes place during the day, the party continues through the night when the newly decorated bars will be serving drinks and hosting exclusive, highly anticipated after-polo parties. Remember to book your table early or you run the risk of missing out!
La Luna de Colu—experts in children’s fun—will organise daily activities for kids. The Playground Area features pedal karts, field archery and skill circuits to name a few. For the slightly older generation there will be a zip-line circuit in place where people will be able to catch an eagle’s-eye view of the vast polo fields from higher up.
And then there is the Los Pinos Pavilion—a luxuriant hospitality space where Land Rover will exhibit their latest models. Bvlgari, the esteemed Italian jewellery and watch brand will also be represented in the pavilion where they plan to showcase their most recent collections.
The Santa María Polo Club has been dedicated to the tournament for decadesand with the experience they have in organising the world-class event, it is sure to be a great success.
