It’s snow time in Southern Spain!

Sierra Nevada ski slopesAlthough the snow is a bit thin on the ground on the streets of Sotogrande at this wonderful time of year, there is a local alternative if you are having winter withdrawal symptoms. It’s a place where the snow is plentiful, the mountain ranges are rugged and the beer is served as cold as the surrounding slopes. Do you know where we are talking about yet? It’s the snow-capped mountains above the historic Andalusian city of Granada – the Sierra Nevada of course!

It takes just about three hours door to door by car from Sotogrande to reach the snowy villages at the base of Europe’s most southerly ski resort. The trendy resort of Sierra Nevada opened on Saturday November 23rd and since then thousands of snow fans have been arming themselves with skis and snowboards to tackle the multitude of serious slopes. Meaning snowy range in English, the Sierra Nevada is home to a stunning resort that includes the alpine style village of Pradollano. At the heart of it you’ll discover countless cosy restaurants, bars, ski schools, nightclubs and a supermarket.  However, for those who enjoy the finer things in life and like a bit of pampering, you might want to treat yourself to a few nights at the lavish El Lodge.

El LodgeOwned and run by the Marbella Club Hotel, this cosy and luxurious winter retreat is unique in that it’s the only ski-in/ski-out property in the resort. Built from seasoned Finnish timber, the hotel is perfect for après ski as it comes complete with a sauna, a Jacuzzi, a steam room and four treatment rooms, offering a range of popular therapies to help ease aching muscles after a tough day on the slopes. There is even a heated outdoor pool, Jacuzzi and sundeck for soaking up the Spanish sun.

So if you fancy a bit of a winter getaway that’s within an easy drive from Sotogrande, best get down to the snowy slopes of the Sierra Nevada soon!
